The junior department enjoyed their end of year trip to Gulliver's World. We all had a fantastic time on the various rides, plenty of smiles and screams on the roller coaster! Thank you to the volunteers and to the children for their excellent behaviour.

TESCO VISIT 2016

plant Two classes (Seion & Elidir) visited Tesco and spent a thoroughly enjoyable day as part of the "Farm to Fork Trail". The children got to taste a variety of food and learnt about the origins of many fruit and vegetables as well as having the opportunity to bake bread. A really interesting day!!!

MEDIEVAL DAY AT CAERNARFON CASTLE

plant Years 5 and 6 spent an enjoyable day in Caernarfon Castle this term experiencing numerous medieval themed activities including watching a play being performed, watching and listening to a presentation on how to make medieval paper using animal skin, making a cardboard sword and taking part in a treasure hunt around the castle.

plant As part of a national health and fitness week there were a number of physical activities happening at school .

TENNIS

plant Pupils from Year 3,4,5 and 6 represented the school in the tennis competition at Caernarfon. A good few days were had with every child giving their all in the competition. Many of the games were very close with the Year 4 boys team reaching the final , but were very unlucky and lost from 2 points ! Both the Year 6 girls and boys teams also reached the finals. Well done everyone.
A big thank you to Susan and Cled ( Post)who have contributed money to the school's PTA fund to enable us to buy new clothes for the sports teams . The children looked amazing.

TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP

plant Two classes in the Juniors took part in a technology workshop this week arranged by the University. The pupils built robots using the LEGO MINDSTORM kits and used input devices to make the robot follow different commands. The pupils had an extremely enjoyable day.

plant Years 5 and 6 spent an exciting morning taking part in an orienteering competition held at Parc Padarn, Llanberis.

AWDUR AR DAITH

plant Year 5 and 6 had the opportunity of a morning in the company of the author Angharad Tomos recently at the library in Caernarfon. Angharad gave a very interesting discussion and introduction to two of her new novels set in the 1960`s. She made the pupils very enthusiastic to read these two exciting new novels. Indeed, many of the children bought signed copies of the books at the event.

plant Year 6 spent three exciting days on their trip to Cardiff recently. They visited The Big Pit, Techniquest, Sain Ffagan Museum, Principality Stadium and the Welsh Assembly. They all had an excellent time and also thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Welsh Cake shop in Cardiff Bay!

plant As part of the World Book Day celebrations, almost every pupil came to school colourfully dressed as characters from a variety of Welsh and English books. Many thanks to the parents for going to so much trouble. Every class prepared various activities within the classroom to celebrate the special day.

plant Yrs 5 and 6 pupils visited the Leisure Centre in Caernarfon to see some of the stars of S4C filming TAG - a Welsh medium show for S4C. One lucky pupil from Yr 5 was randomly chosen to go on stage to play a pancake game! An enjoyable afternoon!!

plant Year 6 pupils had a great day at Plas Menai. They spent the morning climbing the climbing wall and in the afternoon they thoroughly enjoyed an adventure down the Menai Straits on speedboats! They were amazed to see a seal swimming by our speedboats.

plant Years 5 and 6 had an extremely interesting time visiting Hedd Wyn's home in Trawsfynydd. They saw the original chair he won at the Birkenhead Eisteddfod in 1917 as well as meeting Mr Gerald Williams, Hedd Wyn's nephew.

Nepal Appeal

Keystrings The children have been very busy raising money towards the earthquake victims in Nepal. All the children paid a fine for wearing their own clothes to school and they all had a treat buying endless cakes and goodies in the Bethel Cafe! So far, over £300 has been raised. Many thanks to all who supported and who donated generously.

The children enjoyed an afternoon taking part in a sponsored folk dancing activity. It was lovely to see a mixture of children dancing together - Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed being dancing partners with the Reception class children! Many thanks to Miss Hebenstreit for arranging this fundraising activity. All the money raised will go towards buying resources that will benefit all the pupils. So far the children have raised over £800 - this sum is expected to rise as all pupils have not handed in their sponsor money as yet. VERY WELL DONE!! Click here to see the video on our Video Wal

Big Street Survey

Big Street Survey

Year 6 took part in the Big Street Survey this week that was arranged by Gwynedd Council. A survey was made in 4 different areas around the village. The children showed the council representative that litter and dog waste was still a problem in the village.

The lack of special bins for chewing gum was also a matter the children raised.

Year 6 will present their findings and their ideas to our local councillor very soon.

World Book Day

World Book Day

Many of the children came to school dressed up as one of their favourite characters from a book. Many thanks to the parents for going to so much trouble, the children looked fantastic! Many of the children brought books to school to swop in a Book Swop Shop!

The Junior children also took part in a competition set by Gwynedd Libraries to celebrate World Book Day.

The Prime Minister comes to Bethel

childrenElidir class had an unforgettable experience on Thursday 6th February meeting the Welsh Prime Minister Mr Carwyn Jones. Ten pupils from the class asked him a series of questions on topical issues that put the questions asked on Question Time to shame! The Prime Minister was thrilled with the hymn the children sang for him and was also impressed when they sang the South African Anthem in the Xhosa and Zulu language after Mr Jones said that Nelson Mandela was his hero.

A very important visitor came to see the children as a surprise during playtime on the last day of term - Father Christmas! He arrived on his shiny motor bike on the school yard. All the children were shocked at the unexpected visitor!!

CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES
plant meithrinChristmas in Ysgol Bethel is always a very busy and hectic period! A superb nativity show was given by the Nursery class on December 10th. Many thanks to Mrs Gwenan Jones for her hard work with the class. The whole school were busy filming carols to be shown on the big screen on the "Maes" in Caernarfon. The juniors thoroughly enjoyed their pantomime in Llandudno and the Infants had a good time as well in the Galeri seeing their show. There are also a number of exciting events yet to happen before the end of term : - a tasty Christmas lunch prepared by Anti Nia, the Christmas show "Jungle Book" (17th December), carol singing in Morrisons in Caernarfon (18th December), the school party with Father Christmas. The children (and the staff!) will deserve a break after all the excitement! A very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. Click here to see more photos.

Y6 WORKING IN THE MUSEUM
plantYr 6 had the opportunity to work in the museum in Bangor recently as part of a project that allowed children to gain access to day to day life in a museum. They had the opportunity to work in the shop, prepare exhibits and perform a presenatation based on different historical artefacts to the public. They all had a fantastic day.. ennillwyrA successful Sports Day was held once again this year with everyone giving of their best. Garth was the winning team, congratulations Garth. We held a javelin and jumping competition before the day and were entertained by races including running, relays, obstacle, potato and spoon and this year for the first time a sack race. tennisPupils from the school competed in the tennis tournament in Caernarfon. Everyone did brilliantly, and the games were very close during the day. Bethesda Woodland
3 bachgenYear 3&4 went on a trip to a woodland in Bethesda hosted by the Forestry Commission as part of their science work. Everyone had the opportunity to play games highlighting the importance of the woodland as a habitat. RHYD DDU 2013
children in the snowYear 6 spent three very exciting days at the Outdoor Centre in Rhyd Ddu at the beginning of the summer term. They walked from Beddgelert to the summit of Dinas Emrys and were enchanted by the legend surrounding the area after they had arrived the summit. The second day was spent walking through the woods from Rhyd Ddu to Beddgelert, returning to the centre on the steam train. The final day, the children walked along the Snowdon path from Rhyd Ddu and had the opportunity to sledge on the snow. They all had an unforgettable three days! The pupils walked a total of 21km during the three days! It was a pleasure to be in their company for three whole days. Click here to see photos and videos

 

Food Standards Agency
dynThe Food Standards Agency gave the whole School a presentation about the importance of food hygiene. The drama and workshop focused on hygiene and prevention of food poisoning.The children learnt the basics of food safety for cross-contamination, cooling, cleaning and cooking. The pupils enjoyed being Scientific detectives helping to resolve the Mystery of 'Castell y Ddraig'.

Operation Christmas Child

boxesThe School Council decided that they wanted to donate shoeboxes towards Operation Christmas Child this year. Mrs Mair Parry the Anglesey co-ordinator of Operation Christmas Child was invited to school to give a presentation to the children. Bethel School contributed a total of 71 boxes. These boxes were among those sent to Bosnia, Kenya, Liberia and Belarus. Click here to see more photos

Zoolab held a workshop for the Junior pupils, where they had the opportunity to see tropical insects. Amongst them were tarantulas and cockroaches!


Recycling
plantAs part of our theme recycling and pollution, the Juniors had the opportunity to talk to Gwenllian Roberts, Gwynedd Council’s Recycling Officer. Following on from this they went on a visit to Caergylchu recycling Centre in Caernarfon. It was a great experience for them, where they were able to see the recycling process. children in needThe children came to school dressed in their pyjamas to raise money towards the Children in Need appeal. Year 6 also took charge of the Bethel Bistro. A total of £230.47 was collected on the day.

Fire service visit - 17/09/2012

dyn tanTwo members of the Fire Service came to talk about fire safety in the home. The children had the opportunity to dress up as firemen, and had a lot of useful information about how to keep safe in the home.

The Fire Brigade held a competition in the Urdd National Eisteddfod in Glynllifon, and one of the children from Lliwedd won the competition. He had a fantastic prize, a six man tent with camping equipment. Congratulations to him.

Ymweliad Celtaidd - 11/09/2012

plant fel celtiaidThe Junior department had the opportunity to go on a Celtic trail around Anglesey. The first visit was to Din Lligwy to see the Celtic ruins. Thank you very much to Mr Dafydd Evans for coming to talk to the children. The children then had the opportunity to go to Oriel Môn to see an exhibition from the Iron Age and had a workshop involving various artefacts from the era. The last visit was to Melin Llynnon in Llanddeusant to see Celtic houses. The children had the chance to dress up as Celts, light a fire, visit the mill to see how to make flour. It was a fantastic experience for the children to see so many things relating to the Celts. Click here to see the photos

Olympics Day - 8/9/2012
plantMembers of the EFE project came here to arrange a day of activities relating to the Olympics. The day involved solving problems, taking part in sports, listening to stories and various other activities. Brazil were the winning team on the day.

ENTERPRISE
salad ffrwythauDuring the school sports day each class was responsible for arranging items to be sold as part of the school`s business and enterprise scheme. Lliwedd class were selling drinks of orange squash whilst Seion class were busy selling tip tops! Glyder had been very busy designing badges and bracelets that were for sale on the school sports day. Gwyrfai class made fresh smoothies and Elidir class prepared fresh fruit salads! Every class had worked out how much each item would cost and had then decided on a suitable price to sell these items - ensuring that some profit was made as well! Alan Sugar would be very proud of the entrepreneurial skills of the pupils!

gecoMany of the children in the Junior Department have a great deal of pleasure in preparing a show and tell presentation every term. The children have to choose a topic that is of interest to them in Welsh or English and prepare a speech/presentation to the rest of the class. It`s an excellent way of developing oracy skills and definitely gives many children a confidence boost.

childCongratulations to the winner of the brass instrument solo at the Urdd Eisteddfod. It`s always a pleasure listening to him play the piano or the horn. He is very talented.

stadiumYears 5 and 6 spent 3 exciting days in Cardiff recently. They visited The Big Pit, Sain Ffagan Museum, the Olympic Swimming Pool, Techniquest, The Millennium Stadium and a trip to the cinema! Everbody had a fantastic few days and the children were a credit to the school and to their parents. It was a pleasure to be in their company. lineTennis tournament in the Leisure Centre Caernarfon
Pupils from the Junior Section represented the school in a tennis tournament on the 12th June at the Lesiure Centre in Caernarfon. 32 children from the school took part and they all played excellent tennis. Four of the teams came first in the competition and as result sixteen children will now proceed to the next stage of the competition in Wrexham at the end of June. All the best!!

THE INFANTS TRIP TO PILI PALAS AND DINAS DINLLE
dinas dinlleThe Infants went on a trip recently to Pili Palas. All the children were astounded by the variety of creatures that were on show there. In the afternoon the two classes went to the beach in Dinas Dinlle and spent some quality time creating art in the open air! A fantastic day.

FRENCH DAY AT SCHOOL
The school celebrated a French day on the 11th of May. The children came to school all wearing different outfits that suited the day! Everbody was very colourful! All the children had a very exciting day taking part in various activities : - cooking and tasting croissants, learing to count in French, learning the names of different body parts in French and learing to sing a varitety of catchy French songs! Special thanks to Anti Carys, Anti Val and Anti Cynthia for preparing a special French feast for the children at dinner time. The food was delicous! Thanks also to Mrs Cecile Roberts, Dylan and Owain`s mother, for coming to school to speak French with all the classes and to teach the children a little bit about France. Undoubtedly, the highlight of the day for many of the children was being able to taste snails! Many of the children were very brave and eager to taste someting "different"!

The Junior Section spent a very interesting day in Llanberis recently. They all had a journey into Elidir mountain to see the amazing Electric Mountain project. Everybody had a brilliant day.

KINTTING GIRLS
We are very grateful to our KNITTING GIRLS -Anti Fal, Anti Mary and Anti Betty who come to school every Friday to teach the older children how to knit. The boys and girls have learnt new skills and have produced excellent knitting work.

SPORTS CLUB
The school is also very grateful to Mr Richard Llwyd Jones who has started coming to school on Friday afternoons to allow the children the opportunity to take part in sports sessions. The children thoroughly enjoy the experience!

NATIONAL SLATE MUSEUM PROJECT
Elidir Class have been very busy taking part in the National Slate Museum project. As part of the museum`s 40th anniversary celebrations the children have prepared Power Point presentations and have also filmed interviews with the staff of the museum. You will be able to see the childrens` work on the museum`s website soon . Remember to have a look at the website!
